Probably running the St. George marathon together...although I only saw him briefly at the beginning until he ended up beating me by over 30 minutes!!! (Ryan Nelson)
Man, oh man. I don't have a favorite memory, but a great memory is from when we visited Clay and Kara in Vegas for Thanksgiving. Clay and I got up at 4 am on Black Friday and ran over to Walmart. We battled 1,000's of people and came away victorious with 2 big, flat-screen televisions. Kara and Marissa could not have been more proud!!
--Opening my door and seeing you standing in my apartment doorway after the big phone call/getting back together. I still remember what you looked like standing there and I can still feel the big hug we exchanged.
--Running out of gas with Kelly and Joe on our way to California-haha, this is still unbelievable to me. We were stranded in the middle of the night. You flagged down a semi-truck, got in (I was seriously hoping I'd see you again)and got a ride to the next small town about 30 minutes away, and talked a local at Denny's into driving you back to us with some gas. You were gone almost two hours. I can still remember Kelly and Joe waking us up and saying, "Guys, we have some good news and we have some bad news...good news is we're going to California, bad news is we're out of gas." You totally saved us that night!
--Hiking to the highest peek back east. I get a smile thinking of the FOREVER way back down. Me=crying and grumpy and you saying just the right things (or not) and keeping your distance :)
--For sure, the births of our children. And especially finding out we were having twins. We were both so shocked. I can still see your face as Dr. North said she thought there were twins--total disbeleif with a little smile.
Man, I could keep going and going. Happy Birthday, can't wait for more memories to be made with you!
The winter before your mission when Mom and Dad left us alone for two weeks. Everything from the blizzard that cancelled school to minor home improvement projects that we caused. That was a fun time.
Driving Clay from Boise to Twin to see Kara after they decided to get back together (Kara's 1st memory above)...We had a good talk on the way, I asked what his intentions were with Kara :) and it was obvious to me that Clay was the perfect match for my best friend. I was so excited for them!!
On our way to play ball at the church we stopped to pick up Darek and Clay missed the street, then proceeded to put the car in reverse and cruise back down the street for about 2 blocks. We pulled up to Darek's and a couple of guys came to hassle Clay about his driving style. Clay gave some flippant remarks and disregarded the guy who called him out on his reverse moves. Clay told him "that's how we do it on the farm, long straight roads, we have to do it this way, so... not a big deal..." Darek showed up and we basically told the guy to stick it, and off we drove.
Unlike the rest of us, Clay apparently did not see the off-duty officer flash his badge when asking for his license and registration.
a few. when I came to visit clay and I got really excited about all the old school sesame street songs we could find on you tube. another, his obsession for the swagger wagon. and, the hilarious story about the asian woman who told him what to do with a Q-tip. I gotta hear that one again to get it straight.
Bringing home the Wing Intramural Basketball Championship for the Mighty Loose Hawgs.
Competing for the title as the greatest Russian speaker in the history of the United States Air Force Academy (Dang Kirk!).
Drinking milk straight from the cow up at the farm. I will never forget the taste or the smell.
Hello philosophers. I see that you are eating pancakes... I see that it is midnight and you are talking into a banana. Also some stuff about the moral ruler.
The creation of the Cadating Game on a road trip back from some awesome adventure away from the Academy. In a round about way, I think it made Kara jealous and realize that she had to get back with Clay. Not sure how since Aaron won it, but some how, some way.
Watching him struggle mightily at Settler's of Catan. I guess there are some things in life that MIT and the Academy do not prepare you for.
Thanks for being a great friend buddy! Happy birthday and man you are old.
Clay became a brother to me long before he married Kara. I remember meeting Clay on the basketball court at the MTC. He had on his "Lunch Ladies" t-shirt and played hard-nosed defense. We quickly found out that we started our missions on the same day and were both headed to St. Petersburg together. We were instant friends.
Upon landing in Russia, we were in the same district. On our first Sunday there we were having the little kids at church repeat english words that contained the "th" sound. Russians didn't have that sound in their language and struggled mightily to pronounce it. We got the biggest kick out of it.
Tracting together in the rain for 4 hours after being in Russia for just over a month. We had some long conversations with people where we kept looking at each other hoping that the other understood what the contacts were saying.
Clay holding up a blown-up picture of Kara as an object lesson at a Zone Conference, referencing that you shouldn't use companionship study to tell your companion about your plans to marry his sister (I still don't remember where you got that picture).
I could go on forever with mission stories, but I also wanted to note that after the mission, Clay was a part of some of the greatest double dates of all time. We masterminded the perfect dates to sweep Haylie and Kara off their feet. As good as those dates were, I still can't believe that it took us 2 years to convince those crazy girls to marry us. And perhaps even harder to believe is how fast Clay is on rollerblades.
Lastly, I loved our trip to Boston to see Kara and Clay. We had a great time touring the city, going out to eat, and waiting in line for hours to get into to the Red Sox home opener only to watch the tickets get sold out 7 people in front of us. But my fondest memory from that trip is all four of us cramming into Kara and Clay's bed and watching the entire 2nd season of The Office on Clay's laptop.
When Kameron sent us a cassette tape from Russia and Elder Noyes spoke on it and said, "Hi to the Redder family...and especially to Kara." I knew then that I'd have to keep my eye on this young man!
Clay telling Kara that she was taking way longer than the cows do to push out a baby...(with Nixon). And, the rather large, african-american delivery nurse, with the Texan accent, getting so mad and offended that he would say something like that! Kara and I knew he was just trying to lighten up the mood, but that nurse totally thought he was serious!! I think she wanted to take Clay out in the hall and teach that boy some manners!! And...she might have been able to do it.
Watching Clay get SOOOO disgusted with Kara for "stinkering" really loud. He hates that kind of stuff, you know.
All the drama that came with Clay and Kara getting back together that fateful 2005 October general conference weekend. I was home in Burley, but, I was getting play-by-play reports from Kara and Katelyn. I couldn't believe it when I heard Katie made them re-enact the ring dance goblet kiss. (With Kam's encouragement, of course.) But, it was all meant to be!! We love and appreciate you Clay! Thank you for being such a wonderful hubby, daddy, and son-in-law. And, HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY!!
The time Clay was a roommate of mine at the Academy and despite the fact that I was the one studying hours on end while Clay slept HE still go the 4.0!! And despite the fact that I was doing all this military stuff for the Squad HE still got a better MPA than I!!! But hey he's Clay Noyes and he deserves it. Happy Birthday bud!!! (Josh Ramirez)
I have many great memories with Clay: eating custard at Chilly Cow, eating Thanksgiving Dinner together at Westgate, watching him rain down 3s at the Longfellow Park chapel gym, and dunking together at the NBA Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.
But one of my favorite memories is visiting his parent's farm in Utah--seeing and feeding all of the baby cows and seeing some mother cows give birth.
When Clay was 17 months old he sat on Grandma Wilkinson's kitchen bar and sang perfectly "I Am A Child of God" on pitch and ledgibly.
The reason Clay is so smart is because when he was little, everytime he fell, which was often, he always landed on the right side of his forehead, thus keeping those brains shaking and rearranging. He still has a bump on his head I think.
My most favorite memory is the day we dropped him off at the Air Force Acadamy. We knew nothing about life there except for what they told us at orientation, and we were really nervous for him. When he stepped on the bus, he turned and looked at me and gave me his cute crooked smile. It will stay in my mind and heart forever.
Although Clay was #1 in his high school class and Valedictorian, he still managed to have over 30 absenses his last trimester. But this benefited me greatly when I would walk out of school and he would be out there in the truck with the boat hooked up. He let me tag along with his friends (and date them too) while we boated and skiied. But the truest Clay Noyes moment would come when he dropped his pants while skiing to shock the onlookers. It wasn't an "only once" moment. Unfortunately for me, it happened frequently.
--Clay getting flustered with Kara playing with me on a date instead of giving him attention. I think his exact words were, "would you like me to put you back in your play pen with Haylie!" HA!
--Awesome double dates (you, Kare, me, Kam)... My favorite being the date up to the "D" mountain. The romatic music blasting, the picnic, the full moon, top guy. That was rocking. You and Kam had some sweet moves.
--I ALSO loved staying with you guys in Boston. I loved wacky six tournments, laughing with all four of us in your bed, and office marathon.
--Clay I'm so glad you and Kara got married. You guys are SOO right together. I love watching you with Nixon and your girls. You are a great dad. I love having you as a Bro-in-law. I'm glad you were born!
Hummm...While i went to stay with you guys in Boston. We had a wacky six tournament every night. One night Kara kept cheating. So you slammed your cards down and left. You went into you room while saying. I will not play with cheaters, and then shut your door. Kara and I couldn't stop laughing.
When in Colorado Springs and I got very angry with you. You hadn't seen that side of me yet. Then you got me some food. And I did a 360. And was back to normal.
You always telling me I was a gold digger. Calling me when you would hear the song, and just play it for me. Sooo funny.
At summer basketball camp after being told he didn't eat enough of his breakfast he asked the overweight coach if he wanted the remaining food on clay's tray...tom kotter

Eating lobster in Maine and watching him get so grossed out at the tamale.
Playing dice games when he'd take forever on his turn figuring out the probabilities. (I asked Chris, and that was his answer, almost word for word.)
Clay wrestling with Preston in the middle of the night at the Nichols' home. Obviously Clay was the victor because he won Kara's hand in marriage.
Eating lots of beans right before a long road trip back to Colorado Springs!

Our favorite memory of Clay is how well he told the story about Eric at his wedding breakfast :)
